The simplest way to cook fish is also among the most delicious. In fifteen minutes or so you can be enjoying a delectable healthy meal!
Make sure to resist the temptation to check on the fish or adjust the fish as it cooks. The skin will stick to the grill initially but will release as it hardens. Trust in the process and you will have a perfectly grilled fillet every time.
You can achieve a very similar meal with salmon or any other variation of trout. The only change that you may need to make is that the cooking time may need to be extended if you are using a thick fillet. Rainbow trout is a much smaller fish than salmon. You may need to cook for a few minutes longer to ensure a thicker salmon fillet is sufficiently cooked.
If you don't have a BBQ or other grill handy this recipe can also be cooked in an oven by baking the fish. The end result will be significantly different in terms of texture but the flavour will be similar. Cook the fish wrapped in tinfoil baked at 400° for 15-20 minutes. Personally, I vastly prefer grilling but sometimes that isn't an option.
What if you catch some fresh lake trout while in the backcountry? This recipe works great on the fire too! Wrap the fillet in tin foil and cook it over the flame for an oven-baked style or bring along a fish grill basket if you prefer the grilled texture! Be wary, over the fire takes more practice as you have less control over the consistency of temperature.
