Trip Details

Make sure to drive past the trailhead parking and pull into the Mew Lake Campground. The campground attendant is where you check-in and confirm details before heading into the backcountry. After checking-in, backtrack to the Highlands Backpacking Trail parking that is just a few hundred meters back along the parkway.

The trail is straightforward to follow as it leads you into the forest. The only opportunity to get lost is that at about 3.9km, you reach a fork just past Starling Lake. The fork leads in opposite directions around Provoking Lake. Make sure to choose the correct path depending on which campsite you intend to use.
