Trip Details

The paddling trail to view Lion's Head Point is an easy kayak or canoe route that can be completed in a few hours by paddlers of all skill levels. The only caveat is that you need to make sure that water conditions remain calm for the duration of your adventure. You will be paddling along an exposed shoreline so make sure to be cautious. On a perfect day, the water is like glass and you won't have a worry in the world. On a windy day, you may have to deal with crashing waves. Do not venture out into conditions that are beyond your skill level.

The trip pushes off from Lion's Head beach in the town of Lion's Head. Paid parking can be found right beside the beach, though, be prepared to arrive early during the summer months; parking is limited as this is a popular destination. Follow the southern shoreline as it curves away to the northeast. Along the way, you will paddle along seemingly impossibly blue and clear water while enjoying the breathtaking views of towering cliffs. There are countless rock gardens and small caves that you can explore from your kayak as well as frequent rocky beaches that make perfect picnic stops.

The bulk of this route's beauty lasts for about 4km until you reach McKay's Harbour at which point you can either head back or opt to continue along the shoreline for as long as you wish. When returning simply retrace your route.
